Days after the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results, Kenyans are coming face to face with the shocking mess that characterized the results.

In one school, all pupils have recorded the same marks of 75 points in the science subject.

Special KCPE to be held in January; KNEC admits errors in results

A spot check shows that most candidates with erroneous marks were allocated points for the Kenya Sign Language, which they never sat for.

The results were released by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on November 23, 2023.

In one report that appeared in the media, ten candidates had the same marks in one subject. However, they had different grades.

However, officials the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) while admitting the reported errors, has said the mistakes were the result of wrongful alignments.

Officials also say that the errors that are being reported were only recorded in the results that were obtained through the SMS short codes. They claim that the official results in the KNEC portal have no mistakes as is being widely reported.

In a case that has been showcased in the media, one candidate scored Mathematics B (66), Science B- (62), KSL B (70), English B (69), and SSR 73 (B). The candidate’s parents say that when they check her results in the KNEC portal, the results come out as Kiswahili B+ (70), English B (69), KSL = =, Mathematic Ð’ (66), Science B- (62), SSR B+ (73).

“So which grade is genuine?” the candidate’s parents wondered in a media interview on the KCSE results.
