Miss Trudy: I make a minimum of Sh. 500,000 on my YouTube channel monthly

Kenyan travel vlogger Miss Trudy has revealed the amount of money she makes per month. The vlogger made the revelation on YouTube, where she alleged that the lowest amount of money she makes per month is Sh. 500,000.

“For a YouTuber, it’s never the same. The lowest amount I make is 5,000 US Dollars (Sh. 585,000). When I met my fiance, he taught me how to create content and be consistent. I used to post twice a month but now I post more,” she said.

“When he taught me, the most I got paid was Sh. 10,000 at the time. That was the highest amount I had ever received from YouTube.”

This revelation comes months after fellow vlogger Eve Mungai said that she makes up to Sh. 750,000 per month from her YouTube channel.

Prior to starting her vlogging channel, Miss Trudy said that she worked as a sales lady at a supermarket. She then left to work as a research clerk earning Sh. 300 per day.

By February, the number of Kenyan content creators earning seven figures or more monthly from YouTube had risen by 60 per cent in one year. This is according to statistics by YouTube Africa managing director Alex Okosi.

Despite Kenyan personalities such as Miss Trudy and Eve Mungai making good money, YouTube remains a largely unexploited field.

According to Head of YouTube Music Business and Partnership in Sub-Saharan Africa Addy Awofisayo, Kenyans are among African creatives who are already missing out on a lot of income from YouTube.

Music streaming business in Africa has grown to $241 million in 2021 and is expected to reach $484 million by 2026. This is according to Statista.

Nonetheless, details about celebrity earnings in Kenya are usually taken with a heavy pinch of salt due to local media and social media celebrities’ tendency to inflate their earnings for fame and favourable rate cards.
