H.E President William Ruto has confirmed the appointment of Amin Mohammed Ibrahim as the new DCI boss taking over from George Kinoti who handed in his resignation weeks ago. Ruto has tasked Amin Ibrahim with his job with immediate effect.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 30 of National Police Service Act,2011, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in chief of the Defense Forces appoint Amin Mohamed Ibrahim to be the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” read the gazette notice.
Previously, Ibrahim Amin had worked as the head of the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and also held other senior positions with the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit.
His appointment comes after being shortlisted by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC). 253 candidates had expressed an interest to succeed Goerge Kinoti but only 10 were shortlisted after an interview that was conducted at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in lower Kabete on Tuesday.

The other shortlisted candidates were Bernard Barasa Walumoli from Bungoma, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat from Nandi, Gideon Nyale Munga from Kilifi and Esther Chepkosgei Seroney from Elgeyo Marakwet, David Kipkosgey Birech from Nandi, Jonyo Michael Wiso from Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nicholas Ireri Kamwende from Embu, Paul Jimmie Ndambuki from Machakos and Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi from Nyandarua.
Amin Mohammed Ibrahim gained accreditation after the 2007 elections when he testified at the International Criminal Court of Justice in Hague for former police commissioner Hussein Ali.
He blamed the delayed results announcement by the then Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) as the cause of violence since it escalated tension across the country.
