NTSA now goes after popular Mololine Matatu Sacco

The National Transport and Safety Authority is clamping down on the popular Mololine Matatu Sacco following a streak of road accidents.

The authority has now ordered the entire fleet of MoloLine to undergo mandatory inspection at the Nakuru NTSA inspection offices. This follows a deadly road accident that claimed the lives of nine passengers.

MoloLine, which is the most popular matatu sacco plying the Nairobi, Nakuru Eldoret, Kisumu route has 400 public service vehicles in its fleet.

Apart from vehicle inspection, drivers in the sacco have been ordered to present themselves within days for retesting before they can be allowed to resume work. “We also wish to appeal to all our road users to exercise great caution while on the road. Life is precious and we all have an obligation to protect it. Mololine Sacco regrets that the carnage claimed its very loyal customers,” Mololine Matatu Sacco Chairman Njoroge Bomasu said.

The latest accident involving a matatu from MoloLine occurred on February 12 this year. It involved a matatu and trailer. Eight passengers are said to have died on the spot while one succumbed while being rushed to hospital. The accident took place near St Marys hospital near Gilgil along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway at Soysambu area.
