The common advice given to Kenyans relocating to the US is that they ought to avoid being selective about jobs. Ibrahim Onami, a Kenyan residing in the land of opportunity, recalled his extremely short stint working in a mortuary where he earned Sh. 10,000 per hour ($70)

He started the YouTube video by sharing that jobs in the US are in plenty. Onami specifically worked in the cremation department of the mortuary, having applied for the job during a desperate search for employment shortly after arriving in the country.

He submitted his details, underwent an interview, and successfully passed the test. The following day involved an orientation session where he received training on his roles.

His duties included going to the store, retrieving the corpses, and transporting them to the cremation furnace. Afterwards, he was required to collect the cooled ashes, place them in a container, and then clean the furnace.

The perks of a mortuary job in the US are plenty, such as medical insurance, biannual vacations, paid allowances, on-site housing close to the morgue, and complimentary cremation and repatriation services (for immigrants).

Onami confessed that the job was too difficult for him, and he only worked for one day, calling it quits on the next. The work was mentally draining for him.

He offered advice to those yet to arrive in the US, urging them to have a well-thought-out plan in place to facilitate their basic needs and pay bills.
