In the history of students who made headlines in Kenya with high academic achievements, Naeem Samnakay stands tall, having topped both the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Naeem topped the 1985 KCPE when the first class under the 8-4-4 system took their exams. He then moved to Alliance High School, where he topped the first KCSE class under the 8-4-4 system in 1989.
The genius continued with the winning streak when he joined the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he graduated with a Master’s in Medical Science and Honours in Medical School.
He also obtained his Fellowship in Paediatric Urology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.
Today, he works as a paediatric surgeon who treats patients at St John of God Subiaco and Murdoch Hospitals.

He has also specialised in paediatric surgery with clinical interests in gastrointestinal surgery, head and neck tumours, hepatobiliary surgery and hernia.
His other areas of specialisation are hypsospadias, neonatal surgery, paediatric gastrointestinal surgery and paediatric urology.
Besides offering medical services, Naeem has also actively involved in teaching, supervising and mentoring trainee surgeons and medical students.
He serves as the Clinical Associate Professor for the Division of Surgery, Medical School, UWA, and is also an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.
