Photos: How new Nairobi BRT buses will look like

Nairobi BRT Buses: Photos of the new BRT buses have emerged. The buses are designed by Isuzu East Africa.  Each of the 100 buses that will operate along the route will have a capacity of about 160 passengers who will use electronic cards for payment at the stations also to be fitted with Wi-Fi and coffee shops.

The photos received mixed reactions online when they started to circulate. Motoring specialist JM Baraza noted that the buses were way below standard. “The African’s inability to have standards is shocking. Shithole country,” he said this while contrasting the buses with the following Sweden BRT bus.

The comparison to the Isuzu buses drew a huge reaction. “In Brt system, embarking and disembarking the bus is very critiical for safety reasons…thats why world over they are built with a lower ground clearance for the ease of movement…point number two, that bus is supposed to ferry over 160 passengers…so it must be powerfull enuf to safely haul that tonnage…ndiyo maanake double diff…you cannot pick a Githurai45 bus and paint it Brt…” Michael Wachira commented.

Sections of Thika highway will be remodeled to accommodate support facilities such as of boarding stations and footbridges. A park-and- ride facility is also planned for construction at Kasarani to allow commuters heading to the city centre to leave their vehicles and transfer to a mass transport bus for the remainder of the journey. The existing footbridges on the busy highway will guide the placement of the initial stations for the BRT system. Nairobi BRT Buses.
