Despite facing hardships in Saudi Arabia, Nancy Thogori Wanjiru, a young lady from Kajiado County, has proved that nothing is impossible with hard work and determination.
The young lady who moved to the Gulf country in 2019 in search of greener pastures has built a 2-bedroom modern house for her mother, who struggled to raise them.
“My mother is a single mum of five. I am the lastborn. My mother has struggled to raise us single-handedly. It has been difficult for me, my mum, and my siblings. We have been through a lot, and she has never left us,” Wanjiru told Tuko.
Despite facing hardships in Saudi Arabia, Wanjiru was determined to change the story back home. She recalled how she ran away from an abusive employer before landing a better-paying job.
“I had differences with my employer and I could not continue, so I ran away. Since I had gone with an agency and I had betrayed my contract, we no longer kept in touch. I was on my own and with God. He had mercy on me and I got several clients,” She narrated.

“Where I was earning Sh25,000 in 2019, with my new role as a caregiver, I started earning Sh70,000. Sometimes I would earn Sh150,000. The jobs are not permanent, but if you want to continue staying in a house, then you can have an agreement with your employer,” Wanjiru added.
The 28-year-old had a good plan for her money thanks to her good saving culture, which enabled her to purchase two plots of land in Mwea, Kirinyaga county, one for her mum and the other for herself.
“I wanted to build, so I started with my mum’s. The construction began in September 2024 and it is 97 percent done. It is a two-bedroom house. So far, I have spent Sh1.1 million, but I am not yet done. My brother has been overseeing the construction, and he has been faithful to the end. There are just a few things left before my mum can move in,” Wanjiru said.
She advised young people to honor their parents while they are alive, as such gestures have futuristic and generational benefits.
