Grandpa travels 412 kms to plead with academic sponsor after school shuns KCPE star

Nekesa, a form one student this year at St. Mary’s Girls Mumias, was sent home over fee arrears barely two days after joining her new school.

Her grandfather was elated after she scored 364 marks in KCPE 2022, assuring her that he would enrol her in high school.

Nekesa’s grandfather, who is shouldering the burden of educating her granddaughter and other kids of his late daughter, only managed to raise Sh. 2,000 for Nekesa’s admission.

“When it was time for reporting, he took his granddaughter to school. With him was Sh. 2,000. It’s the only cash he could raise,” Ndungu Nyoro wrote on his Facebook page.

However, this couldn’t facilitate her stay, and eventually, Nekesa had to walk from the school. Grandpa decided to visit various offices for financial help, but none came.

Despite never attending school, Nekesa’s grandpa with a heart of gold, fought hard, looking for opportunities to get her granddaughter Nekesa the best education.

“He visited different offices but no help was forthcoming,” he wrote

Not sure where the money for fees would come from, Grandpa decided to make the long strenuous journey from Bungoma to Nairobi County He travelled with Nekesa.

He hoped and prayed to get assistance from Ndungu Nyoro’s Affecto Foundation.

Ndungu Nyoro, the ‘Mtoto wa Mungu lazima asome’ advocate is the founder of Affecto Foundation.

“On Saturday, Babu and granddaughter were invited to Affecto office. They travelled from Bungoma and arrived early in the morning. They were assured that Nekesa would be supported all the way until she clears high school,” Mr Nyoro confirmed.

Nekesa’s grandfather can now sigh relief knowing that her grandchild’s education is taken care of. As a show of gratitude, Grandpa left a blessing at Nyoro’s office by praying for all office staff.

Kenyans joined in to praise the move to help Nekesa and her grandfather. Here are some of the comments:

Phyllis Njau: AMEN. Babu’s prayers heard.

Kiks Pam: God Bless Affecto family. Nekesa so beautiful, I pray one day all her dreams come true.

Eddy Wambui: God bless you in a mighty way Ndungu Nyoro
