On Saturday, the scheduled wedding at Kapsoya AGC Church between Nelly Chepkoech and a man named Amos caused confusion after it was abruptly halted a day before the vow exchange.
The couple has since become a viral sensation on the internet, with waves of opinions coming in from netizens. The turn of events has left their family, friends, and church community in shock.
Nelly Chepkoech, the alleged controversial runaway bride, has released a statement addressing the matter. Speaking to the press, she denied cancelling the wedding.
Nelly maintained that the decision to cancel the wedding was caused by the presiding reverend, Pastor Clement Chalulot, who had communicated delays in obtaining important wedding documents to the couple.
Contrarily, Pastor Clement Chalulot said that Nelly appeared hesitant to proceed with the wedding, citing the need for more time to decide whether to go through with the marriage.
“The communication from the presiding reverend that the bride had changed her mind, halted everything and brought the entire plans to a halt,” he stated.
Nelly, who was captured on footage, hit back at the reverend whom she accused of insinuating that she had suggested a wedding postponement.
“I am 23 years old. It was supposed to be my wedding today, but yesterday we were told the wedding could not go on as there were delays in some letters,” she spoke.
“We were waiting for the day like never before. I am at home with my parents and other people,” Nelly added.

Moreover, Nelly urged the public to withhold judgment without getting the full story. She explicitly clarified that the wedding was not cancelled but rather postponed, allowing her time to address matters with the groom, Amos.
“I have not run away. Everyone was in tears, but some people were hurt. We were told the wedding had been postponed. We had planned the wedding since March this year. The reverend said we wait for the day. I am ready for the day that will be set.”
Pastor Chalulot, the officiating reverend, expressed disappointment in the bride for the last-minute cancellation. He stated he had suspicions when Nelly failed to provide her ID copy for processing the marriage certificate.
He also revealed that the wedding committee had only spent Sh. 50,000 thus incurring minimal losses. Both parties tried to reach an amicable solution, but efforts proved futile forcing them to put off the wedding.
