The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has banned 64 matatu Saccos from operating as public service vehicles.
The Saccos that have been banned include the highly popular Saccos such as Mbukinya, Moline Sacco, Moro Express and Kensilver Sacco.
“NTSA has revoked 64 Sacco licences. Members of the Public are hereby advised not to board vehicles belonging to these Saccos/Companies to avoid inconveniences,” the NTSA announced.
“The National Police Service (NPS) has been advised to impound vehicles belonging to the Saccos/Companies found operating following the revocation of their licences.”

Others that have been banned include Nyeri Shuttle Ltd, Mumias Safaris, Western Safari Sacco.
According to the list of the banned Saccos, the affected vehicles have been plying both localized and long distance routes in their respective terminals in various towns across the country.
In the list, the most affected Sacco is the Mbukinya Limited which has thirteen separate routes, the main route being from Nairobi to the Western region and within the Western and North Rift regions
The NTSA, however, did not immediately reveal the reasons why the Saccos were slapped with the ban.
