NTV Kenya loses YouTube channel with 2.1 million subscribers

NTV Youtube Channel

NTV YouTube channel, which had over 2.1 million subscribers, has been terminated by the video-sharing platform YouTube. The channel was canceled on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Viewers who attempted to search the channel on YouTube noticed that the channel was no longer available. It was however not immediately clear what might have led to the suspension.

Normally, suspensions last for one week for the first strike and two weeks for the second strike. The channel had in 2016 been suspended from YouTube over what was termed as violations of the YouTube community guidelines.

In the latest suspension, YouTube displayed the alert that “This account has been terminated for violating YouTube’s Community Services.”

Some of the reasons that often lead to suspension and cancellation of channels on the video platform that is owned by Facebook include spam and deceptive practices, impersonation, external links, fake engagement, playlist policies, sensitive content, violent or dangerous content, regulated goods sold on YouTube, and misinformation.

Hours later, sources say that Nation Media Group received an alert from YouTube listing the items it had violated.

Before the channel was pulled down by YouTube, NTV Kenya had shared over 100,000 videos. With its huge following, the channel is one of the Nation Media Group‘s digital money makers. The suspension comes as a blow to the media house that has been struggling to adapt to evolving digital journalism and digital news consumption.
