The National Youth Service (NYS) has advertised 200 opportunities for trained drivers to work in the public transport sector.
In a notice dated June 20, NYS said it is seeking disciplined, resilient, and service-oriented NYS graduates to serve as Motor Vehicle Drivers for its client, a reputable player in the public transport sector.
“Our client, a reputable player in the public transport sector for the past 15 years, has steadily expanded its fleet from 30 to 300 vehicles, reflecting a strong commitment to service delivery across Kenya. In support of its growth and operational excellence, the company is seeking disciplined, resilient, and service-oriented National Youth Service (NYS) graduates to serve as Motor Vehicle Drivers across all 47 counties,” NYS stated.
Successful applicants will be tasked with operating vehicles safely and in full compliance with Kenyan traffic laws and NTSA regulations.
Additionally, they will ensure that the vehicle is taken for routine servicing once every month at the designated NYS Service Bay.
Other roles include monitoring and reporting daily mileage, fuel consumption, unusual usage, warning lights, dashboard indicators, and any unusual noises, mechanical problems or defects immediately.
They will also carry out daily vehicle checks, including engine oil, coolant and brake fluid levels, tyre pressure, tyre condition and wheel nuts, cleanliness of lights, mirrors and license plates.
The drivers will also maintain accurate vehicle logs, including work tickets and service records as well as adhere to all safety protocols and report any incidents or irregularities to supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Academic:
- KCSE Certificate with a minimum grade of D+ (plus) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili (reading and writing).
- Training in customer service, hospitality, or communication will be an added advantage.
Professional:
- Valid BCE-class driving license obtained through the National Youth Service (NYS).
- Valid PSV license issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
- Successfully passed driver proficiency and suitability tests from a recognized authority (e.g., NTSA or Chief Mechanical and Transport Engineer).
- Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience with a clean accident-free record.
- Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last 6 months.
- Medically and physically fit.
- Additional certification in defensive driving or first aid is a plus.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Vehicle Maintenance: Able to perform routine checks and basic troubleshooting (oil, water, tyres, etc.).
- Knowledge of Regulations: Familiar with NTSA regulations and county/national traffic laws.
- Navigation: Proficient in using GPS, Google Maps, Waze, and in-app navigation tools.
- Record-Keeping: Maintains accurate work logs and vehicle service histories.
