Billionaire owner of one of Kenya’s oldest business chain dies

Kenyan billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist Amin Gilani has died while undergoing treatment in the United Kindom.

The news of his demise were shared by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who eulogized him as a man who significantly shaped Kisumu’s economy through Job creation.

“Gilani’s sudden demise in the United Kingdom on March 2, has robbed this County of a great investment partner,” a condolence message by Nyong’o states.

“His business enterprises employed hundreds of people and contributed greatly to Kisumu County’s investment profile, especially in the tourism and manufacturing sectors,” he added.

Gilani was the owner of Mayfair Holdings, a family-run bread manufacturing company based in Kisumu. The company’s founding father Gilani founded it in 1967 for economic development in the region.

It owns one of the most popular bread brands in Nyanza and Western regions. Some of its bread brands include the Sunblest bread, Sunblest vanillas, and Sunblest scones.

The company has also invested heavily in the real estate sectors and owns multiple properties including a five-star hotel at the heart of Kisumu City.

According to Kenyans.co, Mayfair Holdings also owns a massive storage facility which is used by traders to facilitate the export of fresh produce cargo through the Kisumu International Airport.

The firm has created employment for over 500 people in Kisumu.
