THIEF RETURNS LUPITA NYONG’O’S SH. 13 MILLION OSCAR DRESS

0

Oscar gown worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o that was stolen two days ago was returned on Friday by the thief, who tipped off celebrity news site TMZ.com after finding out that the pearls on the dress were fake. TMZ said the thief took the Calvin Klein dress from Lupita Nyong’o hotel room on Wednesday after finding the door ajar.

The high-flying Lupita Nyong’o had worn the dress adorned with 6,000 pearls to Sunday’s Academy Awards in one of the most commented looks of the night.

The thief and others removed two pearls from the dress and took them to the Garment District in downtown Los Angeles where they were told they were not real, according to TMZ. The thief then took the dress back to the London West Hollywood hotel and told TMZ it was in a garment bag inside a trash bag in a bathroom.

TMZ then tipped off the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in West Hollywood, which was investigating the theft. The website shows grainy footage of an unidentified person opening the bag and finding a white dress.

The Sheriff’s Department confirmed a white pearl dress had been recovered at the London hotel Friday and said it would release more details later.

INCREASE YOUR INCOME IN WAYS MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW

0

Like it or not, money is a reality we all have to face.

Most of us understand that the things that are really important in life are experiences, friends, and family, but it is hard to escape the fact that financial freedom gives you a lot more time to make the most of those things.

Couple that with the fact that not being able to pay your bills is one of the most stressful experiences a person can have, and you begin to understand that the ability to generate income is a key skill for most people. So what can you do to most effectively increase income?

Make a plan

As with most things in life, the key to making money is to have a good plan in place. Having a set of instructions to follow will keep you on task and help you feel like you are making progress even on days when it is hard to see any movement.

Steps to Achieving Your Financial Freedom and Success

Each week, think of what you want to accomplish and write down the things you will need to do to get there. Break down the steps you will take to reach your goal and assign each of them to a day on your calendar. When that day comes, make sure you are doing everything you can to move towards success.

Prioritize your actions

It is a simple fact of life that 20% of the work you do will be responsible for 80% of the success you achieve. Whether you call it the 80/20 rule or Pareto’s Principle, the lesson remains the same: you should prioritize the 20% of your work that is likely to lead to success.

Identify and focus your energy on proven sources of income or projects with a good probability of paying off big time. You still need the other 80%, which usually sides projects or ideas in the making, but build your day around your core projects and avenues for success.

What keeps us from achieving our Financial Goals

Try something new

Nothing will erode your confidence like spinning your wheels on a project that ends up going nowhere. If you have committed a lot of time to a project that isn’t paying off, don’t be afraid to walk away.

There is a principle in psychology called justification of effort that says people are more committed to things that they have invested a lot of time and energy in already. This can lead to stubbornly wasting your time on things that will never pay off. Know when you cut your losses and move on to something new.

Say “no”

Your time is the most valuable resource you have and overextending yourself will drain it. Taking on too many projects will also lead to increased stress and less opportunity to pursue exciting opportunities.

Major Financial Mistakes Men Make in Their 20s

Cultivate your ability to say no to things. When a new opportunity comes along, ask yourself if the investment of time it requires is likely to pay off in a way that you feel is appropriate. If the answer is no, walk away.

Be a leader

A well-known key to success in business and in life is the ability to recognize an opportunity before anyone else. With that in mind, you should always be on the lookout for the next great path to success. Keep your mind as open as possible and never stop engaging with the world in creative ways.

Expose yourself to as many conflicting perspectives as you can by reading books to disagree with and taking meetings with people you don’t like. Viewing something from all angles is the best way to really understand it and will help you blaze a new trail.

MP MUCHAI MURDER SUSPECT TELLS COURT POLICE CRASHED HIS PRIVATE PARTS TO GET A CONFESSION

0

Simon Wambugu, a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Kabete MP George Muchai has claimed that police have been torturing him by attempting to crash his private parts. The suspect’s lawyer Kamati Shamara told a Milimani Court on Friday that Mr. Wambugu had suffered serious injuries around his manhood and needed urgent medical attention.

According to Mr. Wambugu, police had resorted to crashing his manhood in an attempt to get him to unearth more confessions on the mysterious murder of the MP.

“I personally have been denied access as well as members of his family who had brought him food, he has been seriously tortured in attempts to extract an admission… this type of conduct will ultimately result in a mistrial,” defence lawyer Kamati Shamara said.

Subsequently, Milimani Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure Friday directed Gichamba be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and be examined by private doctor.

The magistrate also directed police to ensure the rights of the suspect are respected and he be allowed access to a lawyer of choice.

Uncharacteristic of other court appearances, Gichamba’s relatives thronged the courtroom during the Friday morning session.

The magistrate directed a medical report be filed in court to show the extent of injuries Gichamba sustained while in police custody. He is expected back in court on March 10.

Kenya emerges as Solar Panel Hub

0

Kenya Power calculates that 30% of the population has access to the grid, which leaves up to 56% still relying on kerosene, batteries and candles.

By comparison to other African markets, Kenya is a leader for off-grid power.

The most recent Africa-wide study by Lighting Africa in 2012 showed that the penetration of ‘pico-powered’ lighting systems (solar and wind-up) in Africa’s 115-120 million off-grid households was estimated to be just 4%.

Jesse Moore, Managing Director and Co-Founder M-KOPA says, “Off-grid solar is a vital part of Kenya’s energy mix. This market has been ignited by new and improving solar equipment, and much of it has been made affordable to the mass market by pay-as-you-go offerings or other consumer financing models.”

M-KOPA has connected over 140,000 homes in Kenya to solar power in the past two years, plus 20,000 more in Uganda and Tanzania.

The Nairobi-based company partnered with Safaricom in late 2012 to launch the first commercial offering, globally, that combines mobile payments with GSM sensor technology to sell solar power systems to households on a daily payment plan.

Jesse Moore says, “We’ve developed solar home systems to power lighting, phone charging and radio. Being able to provide this on a payment plan that was on average 40% cheaper than kerosene, batteries and candles was what has enabled us to build scale – to the point we’re now connecting 500 or more homes a day.”

MWINGI CENTRAL MP ACCUSED OF PULLING AND SQUEEZING OFFICER’S MANHOOD

0

The Nairobian: An officer at Kitui County has recorded a complaint with the police accusing Mwingi Central MP of fondling, pulling and squeezing his testicles!

According to The Nairobian Newspaper, Charles Dickens Kyale, who is the political advisor of Governor Julius Malombe, alleges that Mutambu assaulted him on February 23 during a demonstration by traders led by the MP.

The traders were protesting the increase in business licence fees following the enactment of the County Finance Act 2014-2015. The said altercation between the MP and the county officer allegedly took place at the governor’s boardroom where Mutambu, accompanied by activists Miltonic Mwendwa and Moses Banda, went to present a petition to Governor Malombe who was not in the office.

Kyale claims the MP spotted him seated and, without provocation, attacked him while accusing him of undermining his authority as Mwingi Central MP. Addressing the press in his office the following day, Kyale further claimed that Mutambu punched and slapped him severally, sending him sprawling on the floor, after which he pulled and squeezed his private parts.

“He punched and slapped me across the face and I fell down. He then knocked my head against the executive table. When I fell down, He bent over as if to bite off my genitalia, but I pushed him away,” said Kyale, adding that his clothes were torn in the process.

The officer recorded a statement with the police after receiving treatment at the Kitui County Referral Hospital and said he was in the process of instituting legal action against the legislator. “I will definitely press charges against the MP. He should relinquish his seat…he doesn’t deserve the title honourable,” said a bitter Kyale.

Kitui Central OCPD, Kennedy Onsando, confirmed that Kyale had recorded a statement and that investigations into the incident have been launched.

Kyale, who comes from Mwingi Central, claimed that there has been bad blood between him and the MP after he raised issues on “rampant misuse of the constituency’s development funds on ghost projects,” which he alleges has angered the MP.

0

John Kipchumba Tanui is new Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) Chief Executive Officer. Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i appointed Mr Tanui to replace Catherine Adeya-Weya, whose term elapsed last month after heading the State corporation for two years in an acting capacity.

John Tanui is deputy CEO of Chinese IT giant Huawei Kenya’s operations. John Tanui was one of three nominees forwarded to Dr Matiang’i by the KoTDA board of directors. He was unveiled at a news conference attended by board chairman John Ngumi, yesterday.

The KoTDA is expected to implement the Konza Techno City, a project to foster the growth of technology in Kenya as part of Vision 2030. The project is expected to enhance integration of ICT in service delivery.

John Tanui holds a Masters of Business Administration from University of Nairobi and Bachelor of Electrical and Communication Engineering from Moi University. “Mr John Tanui brings a wealth of professional experience, having worked for many organisations as an engineer, project and product manager,” said Dr Matiang’i while announcing the appointment.

On completion of phase one of the Konza City by 2018, it is expected that it will contribute $1 billion (Sh90 billion) or approximately two per cent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Konza development puts the private sector at the centre of its execution with the government providing land, legal backing and approving architectural plans.

Why your relationship is failing

0

Relationships don’t go bad overnight. There are subtle and destructive behaviour patterns which erode the bond between spouses or partners. These toxic attitudes can turn a fairytale relationship into an MMA Super Fight.

But not all is lost. When particular destructive patterns of behaviour are identified and addressed, a relationship on life support can become healthy again.

Know how to identify these 3 things that might be killing your relationship, so you can catch trouble before it starts.

1. Mind reading

The easiest way to set a relationship on a death spiral is to play armchair psychic. Mind reading takes a posture of assumption instead of listening, judgment instead of compassion.

When we try and read the thoughts, motives, and intentions of another person, their voice is taken away. It dehumanizes the partner and does not give them room for explanation. We all struggle with this one because it’s easier to play “mind reader” than listen to your partner.

If you say, “I know why you did this…” there’s a possibility mind reading has entered the relationship.

2. Control

The desire to control your partner, is rooted in fear and insecurity. A controlling attitude has more to do with us, and less with the partner.

When control enters a relationship, an underlying fear is buzzing behind the surface. It may be fear of not knowing the future. Fear of abandonment. Fear of being seen as a terrible spouse.

Until we get a handle on our own insecurities the partner will suffer.

If we constantly say “Don’t do that,” or “Stop doing this,” we might be a control freak.

3. Routine

All relationships get stale. When partners get comfortable with one another they stop doing the little things. Boredom and disinterest set in.

But this is normal. It just means we need to mix it up. Maybe we need a new routine. A date night every Friday night. A vacation to an exotic locale. Taking up a hobby together. Or finding different ways to communicate with one another.

Routine doesn’t need to have the last say in a relationship. Identify it. Mix it up. Watch your relationship come back to life.

The Science of Successful Group Projects

0

Team projects are difficult to pull off. You’re facing unfamiliar obstacles and relying on new processes. Members of your team may not have a shared history, meaning they’re leaning how to work with each other. The short-term nature of many projects means it’s hard to rally everyone around an inspirational vision.

So how can you lead your next group project to success? Surprisingly, you should actually amp up the difficulty by delegating tough tasks.

It sounds counterintuitive, but according to a study published in the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, giving a team member difficult assignments actually increases his or her overall commitment to the project.

“As an individual’s expectations of his or her performance capability are affected by the project’s difficulty, the individual will adjust his or her behavior (in terms of effort and direction) to ensure the project’s success,” the researchers explain.

In other words, being challenged will make your co-workers care more about the project’s outcome and work harder—making it much more likely that you and your team will achieve the end-goal.

However, what’s challenging to one person is a breeze for another. Before your next project begins, make a list of your team members and include what you know of their strengths and weaknesses. Then, once you’ve broken down the project into sub-tasks, you can delegate based on individual potential.

Throughout the project, make sure to ask team members if they feel comfortable with the work and whether it’s well-suited to their capabilities. If it doesn’t seem like someone is being challenged, change his or her role to make it more important or complex.

It turns out, everyone does love a challenge. Apply this concept at work, and watch your projects succeed.

THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT WORDS IN A JOB INTERVIEW

0

Steve Pogorzelski Articles Businesses and Biography

You might consider what Steve Pogorzelski has found. He’s spent the past 25 years vetting hundreds of candidates for leadership jobs, notably as group president of Monster.com Worldwide, where he helped the career site more than triple its revenues to $1.4 billion. Last August, Pogorzelski stepped in as CEO at sales and marketing data analytics firm Avention (formerly OneSource), where he has since replaced six out of eight of the company’s C-suite executives.

How candidates use two pronouns can reveal (almost) everything you need to know.

“What has been your biggest professional success so far, and why?”

It may sound like the same question every other interviewer asks, but Pogorzelski is listening for something different. After all, most people’s biggest successes are already obvious from their resumes, cover letters, and social media profiles. “What I want to hear is the word ‘we,’” he says. “The way someone describes how they achieved their biggest goals speaks volumes about them as potential leaders.”

“What has been your biggest failure, and why?”

Again, this query is such a staple of job interviews that candidates are likely to have a canned answer ready to go. What they may not realize is that Pogorzelski is listening for where they put the blame. “The word I want to hear when people answer this is ‘I,’” he says. “If someone tells me they failed at something because someone else messed up, or the economy was bad, or for any other reason that was not their fault, that’s a big red flag.”

“What could the company be doing better than we do now, or how could I do my job better?”

Very few people expect this question, so an interviewer can get a glimpse of how a candidate thinks on his or her feet. And it’s a good way to find out how much research and thought someone has put in before the interview. Any response that shows a thorough knowledge of the company, the industry, and the competition is okay, and may even reveal some useful insights.

Set these 2 boundaries for a sane balance of work and life

0

If you’re a workaholic who has a difficult time disengaging from your duties, then maybe it’s time to realign your work and personal time habits. Take a look at these three ways to keep your mind off work during your downtime.

Don’t take work home with you

Simply put, make it extremely difficult or even impossible for you to complete work tasks from home. Leave your work files at the office, remove your professional email account from your personal phone, and get some physical separation between you and your work materials. This can be extremely difficult to accomplish if you’re able to work remotely from home. In this case, try to keep work-related data relegated to certain areas of your house, such as your home office. Don’t let professional emails, documents and other materials leak into areas dedicated to relaxation.

Say “no” to extra tasks

It can be too easy to over commit to work tasks near periods of downtime. If you feel like your calendar is filling up too fast, then don’t be afraid to say “no.” You need to keep you time off clear so that you can adequately enjoy the holidays. This can be a particularly difficult exercise for workaholics who love to lend a hand. Saying “no” can feel extremely awkward, but it is an useful skill to practice at work. Protect your personal time by not signing up for additional duties during the holiday season.

Does your time off seem a little less intimidating now? You can reduce the likelihood of becoming overworked by planning ahead, leaving work at the office, preparing an informative email auto-responder, and by avoiding additional work responsibilities that can stress you out during vacations and holidays.
