The government has increased fees passport fees and introduced new ID card fees. This means that to acquire a passport in Kenya, you will now pay higher fees.

You will also now start to pay to get an Identity Card, which has been free since independence.

The new fees are contained in a gazette notice that was issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.

According to the notice, persons who turn age eighteen who want to acquire an ID card will pay Sh. 1,000 fee. Those who want a replacement for a lost ID will cough Sh. 2,000.

Changing your particulars on your ID card will now cost Sh. 1,000 while civil servant cards will cost Sh. 1,000 up from Sh. 100.

Acquiring a 34 page passport has also been hiked from Sh. 4,500 to Sh. 7,500. The 50 page passport booklet will now cost Sh. 9,500 from the previous Sh. 6,000.

At the same time, the 66 page passport will now cost Sh. 12,500 up from Sh. 7,500. Those looking to get diplomatic passports will pay Sh. 15,000 up from Sh. 7,500.

Fees have also been introduced and others hiked for services that involve registration of births and deaths.

For instance, certification of current birth will now cost Sh. 200 up from Sh. 50. This will be the same cost for certification of current death. Late registration of birth certificate will cost Sh. 500 up from Sh. 150.

According to the new fees, late death registration will now cost Sh. 500 up from Sh. 150. A presumed death certificate will now cost Sh. 1,500 up from Sh. 150.
