Did Paul Magu murder his family? Questions as body of one missing kid found with acid burns

It is now feared that the three missing kids – Allen, 9, Ryan, 8, and Tiffany, 5 – may have been brutally murdered. This is after confirmed reports emerged last evening that the body of Tiffany Muthoni had been found in a coffee field with acid burns. Tiffany, the last born of the three children had gone missing together with her brothers on Tuesday last week after the bodies of their parents Paul Magu and Lydiah Wangui were found in separate locations in Nairobi and Thika.

Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki Monday said the decomposing body of five-year-old Tiffany Muthoni was found on Ngenda Road in Tatu City. “The deceased was dressed in a pyjama and we suspect the body was burnt using a chemical,” said Ms Mboroki. She further said the search for Tiffany’s brothers, nine-year-old Allen Magu and eight-year-old Ryan Muhiu was still on. Tiffany’s uncle, Mr Andrew Muhiu, said her body was found in an open field and had decomposed. It had a deep cut on the neck and hands.

According to the family househelp, Ms. Margaret Njoki, Magu had left his matrimonial home in Muthaiga Pipeline Estate in Kiambu with the three children early on Tuesday and told the househelp that he was taking them to their rural home in Thika. Apparently, Magu had told her to prepare the children at around 8am. “They then went away together but two hours later, Mr Magu returned without them and told me that he wanted to pick something from the house,” Ms Njoki said.

Early yesterday, there were reports that the three missing kids’ bodies had been found in a Kiambu dam. However, the family came out to deny these reports. By then, the family and police had intensified their search for the missing children, concentrating on major dams in Kiambu and Thika.

By Monday December 1, police investigators were looking into the couple’s involvement with cultism. This was after the family revealed that former lawyer Paul Magu and his wife Lydia Wangui were staunch followers of controversial Nigerian TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan). Magu’s passport showed he had travelled to Nigeria more than 20 times since 2009 to attend the church services.

Police suspect Magu may have killed his wife on November 23 in their house at Muthaiga Pipeline Estate after he sent their house-help to town twice for shopping. This was after a lot of blood was found in their bedroom. And after the woman was killed, her body was burnt outside their house and later stashed in a sack waiting for disposal the following day.

The mutilated body of Magu’s wife, Wangui, was found near Paradise Lost along Kiambu Road in Nairobi on November 24 and later taken to the City Mortuary. It was badly mutilated and burned. At the back of her head was a deep cut.

The body of Magu was found on the Thika-Garissa highway near Ngoliba on Wednesday where police believe he had committed suicide after jumping onto a speeding bus. He had left his car at the side of the road with the engine running and had a white jerrican in his hands when he was knocked down. Inside the car were the jackets of the three children, lunch boxes and a key.
