Safaricom chief executive officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa has increased the amount of Safaricom shares that he owns to 6.21 million. As at the end of Safaricom’s financial year in March 2024, Mr. Ndegwa’s Safaricom shares had risen from 895,000 to 6.21 million.

These shares are now worth an estimated Sh. 107.4 million from the trading price of Sh. 17.30 at the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

Over the past one year, the Safaricom stock has had a swing of a low of 11.50 per share and a high of 21.15 per share. At the highest price range of 21.15, Ndegwa’s stake in Safaricom would be worth Sh. 131.3 million. At the lowest, they would be worth Sh. 71.4 million.

With Safaricom having paid out a total dividend of one shilling and twenty cents per share for the full year 2023, Ndegwa’s stake would have given him a maximum of Sh. 7.45 million in dividends alone. Solely from the final dividend payout of 65 cents that was announced at the end of the previous financial year, this stake would pay dividends of Sh. 4 million.

It was not immediately clear the actual dates in which Mr. Ndegwa purchased the additional Safaricom shares and the prices at which he took position to determine his current return on investment.

Apart from Ndegwa, there are other top directors with sizeable shareholding in the telecommunications firm. Dilip Pal who is the Chief Finance Officer at Safaricom hold 1,342,105 shares in the company.

These shares are currently worth an estimated Sh. 23.2 million if traded at the range of Sh. 17.30 per share. Between 2023 and 2024 though, Mr. Pal did not increase or decrease his shareholding in the company.

Dr. Karen Kandie who sits at the board, though increased her shareholding in Safaricom from 147,300 shares in 2023 to 235,800 shares in 2024. This stake is now worth Sh. 4 million.
