Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has revealed when the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its portal for the September 2025 university intake.
In a press statement on Thursday, Ogamba said KUCCPS portal for the September 2025 university intake will open in March 2025.
“In keeping with the annual placement calendar, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open the placement portal for the September, 2025 university intake in March, 2025,” read part of the statement.
Already, the KUCCPS portal has been open since 24th January 2025, for the placement of applicants to the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, for the March and May 2025 intakes
The CS further addressed the concerns surrounding cut-off points, maintaining that the Ministry has not introduced any changes to the previous cut-off points as earlier speculated.
Government advertises over 50 jobs and attachments, how to apply and qualifications
Reports circulating on social media earlier indicated that the government was betting on adjusting cut-off point to reduce the financial burden in supporting learners to universities.
The reports speculated that 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who attained grade C+ may not qualify for university admission.
Ogamba, however assured the public that all 246,391 students who qualified for direct entry to universities would be admitted.
“The minimum admission requirement for university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus). Therefore, all 246,391 students who attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above qualify for university admission,” the CS added.
He further dismissed claims that funding university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort would cost the government Sh100 billion noting that only Sh25.85 billion would be needed for the annual financing.
“Contrary to reports in sections of the media, it will not cost Sh100 billion to fund university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort,” Ogamba stated.
“The Ministry projects that if all 246,391 candidates join university, Sh25.85 billion will be required to fund their education annually. The Sh100 billion projection represents the total cost over a four-year period,” he added.
