PS Macharia: Kenyan girls are abused in Saudi for being hard-headed

Kenyan girls working in Saudi Arabia are abused by their Saudi employers because they are hard headed. This is according to Kenya’s foreign permanent secretary Macharia Kamau.

PS Macharia Kamau claimed that Kenya  girls do not understand that the gulf countries such as Saudi are strict when it comes to the obedience of domestic workers, the lack of which subjects Kenyan girls to abuse.

“Sometimes our people will not be so subservient and when they go to these countries like Saudi Arabia are very ancient. The people who suffer terrible beatings, abuse are usually people of that category,” he said.

This came a few weeks after the PS unleashed yet another controversial claim about Kenyan workers in Saudi Arabia.

On September 4, PS Macharia had blamed workers heading to Saudi for bringing mistreatment upon themselves by deliberately walking into know  danger.

“We have told Kenyans repeatedly to stop sending this category of workers to Saudi [Arabia]. You’ve chosen not to listen,” said Macharia.

The ambassador’s remarks came a day after photos of a 24-year-old Kenyan, Diana Chepkemoi, surfaced online looking emaciated with reports that her employer had detained her in Saudi Arabia.
