The Kenya Police Sacco was established in 1972 as a deposit-taking institution (DT Sacco), starting with 690 members. It has since grown to include tens of thousands of members.
As the name suggests, is the Kenya Police Sacco membership only for law enforcement officers? Mainly, the Kenya Police Sacco provides sustainable financial services to its members, many of whom are from the Kenyan police forces.

However, the Kenya Police Sacco is not closed to the public. Any individual who is 18 years old or above and meets these stated qualifications can join the Kenya Police Sacco. They include:
- Be in service or a retired member of any police wing in Kenya
- Be a civil servant or employed in the private sector with a salary
- Be a businessperson with a certified legal business
- Be an employee of the Kenya Police Sacco Society
- Be a permanent employee of Utumishi Investment Limited
- A permanent employee of Ruaraka Housing Estate Limited
- Be an employee of the civil service
- Be an employee of corporate entities operating in Kenya
- If you are a partner (husband or wife), or son/daughter of any of the above members, you should be qualified too.
How to join
If you qualify to join the Kenya Police Sacco, the next step is to apply. Download a membership application form online and visit the nearest Sacco office as detailed below. Here’s the process:
- Visit the Police Sacco portal & download the membership application form/register your details here.
- Fill out the form with details of your name, address, employment information and mode of remittance. This should be done in CAPITAL letters.
- Attach two copies of your national ID (front and back) and two coloured size passport photographs.
- Submit the documents at the nearest Kenya Police Sacco branch for verification
As a formality, members of the Kenya Police Sacco must make contributions that are equivalent to 12% of their basic salary. In return, they get access to instant loans, interest on deposits and high annual dividends.
How to access instant loans
As one of the major benefits of the Kenya Police Sacco, members also get financing for investments in various fields such as agriculture, business and real estate.
The more savings an individual has, the higher the loan limit. On the upside, savings can also act as an emergency fund. Here is the loan application process:
- Fill out a loan application form available online
- Have guarantors, who are active members of the Kenya Police Sacco. The number of guarantors required depends on the loan amount.
- The loan application form must be verified and signed by any Kenya Police Sacco employee.
- You need to submit two pay slips from the previous two months along with your original ID card.
- Furthermore, securities for loans are compulsory.
