Royal Media Salaries: Royal Media Services has reviewed the salaries of its employees. In a directive that was issued by the media house managing director Wachira Waruru, employees will no get 10 per cent more on their current salaries.
“This means that staff currently on a salary reduction of 20% will go to 10% and the staff on 30% will go to 20%. We will continue to review the situation with a view to reverting to full salary for all staff as soon as possible,” Waruru said in a memo to his staff.
In 2020, media houses in Kenya had reduced salaries by between 20 and 50 per cent in a bid to stay afloat. RMS is now the second media house in Kenya to review its salaries upward. The Nation Media Group was the first to review its pay upwards.

“Staff currently on a salary reduction ranging from 5% to 10%, will now be on full pay. Staff on salary reduction ranging from 15% to 35% will get a reprieve of 10%; for example, those on 15% reduction will go to 5%. This is effective from the December 2020 payroll,” the NMG chief executive officer Stephen Gitagama had said.
