Telecommunication Company Safaricom has introduced a new home fibre internet package for customers across various parts of the country.

“KSh 1,500 ONLY! GET fast and reliable 5mbps HOME internet with Safaricom Wi-Fi Bamba! Simply Dial *400*2*4# TODAY to inquire and get connected,” Safaricom stated.

The new offer comes at a time when Safaricom is facing stiff competition from Elon Musk’s Starlink in the market.

Starlink launched in Kenya in July 2023 and has increasingly offered competitively priced internet packages and better speed.

Starlink offers speeds of up to 200Mbps for Sh6,500 ($50). It also introduced a 50GB package priced at Sh1,300 and a rental option for those unable to purchase the internet kit, which costs Sh45,000.

As of June 2024, the satellite internet service has amassed over 4,000 active customers in Kenya.

In response to the competition, Safaricom has been rolling out new services to ensure customer satisfaction.

Last month, the telco upgraded its home internet packages, increasing speeds across various plans.

The 10Mbps plan now offers 15Mbps for Sh3,000 ($23), while the 23Mbps package was bumped up to 30Mbps.

Those on the 40Mbps plan will enjoy 80Mbps, and the 100Mbps plan multiplied 5 times to 500Mbps for Sh12,500 ($97).

The telecommunication giant has set a milestone by becoming the first internet provider to offer Gigabit speeds 1000Mbps/1Gbps for Sh20,000 ($155).

“We have enhanced our Home Internet speeds to meet the increasing demand and usage, providing reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers.” The telco stated.
