Day Sakaja blocked Mary Wambui’s State job because she lacked degree

What you do unto others shall be done unto you! This is the statement that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is experiencing after huge doubts emerged over his academic qualifications.

Petitioners have asked the IEBC to block Sakaja from contesting for the Nairobi Governor’s position because he does not have a university degree. Incidentally, in 2019, Sakaa had moved to court to block the appointment of former Othaya MP Mary Wambui to a State job because she didn’t have a degree.

Wambui had been appointed as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority. Sakaja, however said that the appointment went against Section 10(2) of the National Employment Authority Act as well as the vision of the institution. He argued that Wambui did not have a degree and was not well educated. As such, she was unqualified to lead.

“I have confidence that she has the ability to serve Kenyans in a different capacity but not as the vision carrier and chairperson of the NEA,” Sakaja said.

Sakaja had argued that the government to take the institution seriously and see it as an opportunity to streamline access to the job market.

“The leadership of such an institution would need a vision carrier with knowledge of the subject matter and with the passion to drive it, especially at its inception,” Sakaja said.

Three years later, Sakaja has found himself unable to substantiate with honesty where and when he graduated with a degree. Whereas he has previously alleged to have graduated from the University of Nairobi with a degree in actuarial science, the university has come out to say that he has never graduated there.

Now, the Senator has turned around and claimed to have graduated from TEAMS University in Uganda, even though he has previously denied ever studying outside Kenya. His name was also not found in the booklet that contained names of other graduates from TEAMS in the year he claims to have graduated.

Sakaja has also refused to table proof of receipts or money transactions showing that he paid fees to the institution.
