President Ruto on 27th September nominated a 22-member cabinet that will be chaired by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The cabinet appointees now await vetting by the National Assembly so that they can be fully incorporated into their respective dockets.
The 22-member cabinet will play a huge role in the Kenya Kwanza administration to ensure President Ruto delivers to Kenyans and implements the National Transformation agenda.
Most of his cabinet appointees are leaders who have been loyal to him during tough periods in the national campaign trail and even before.
According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission gazette notice, the salary and benefits President Ruto’s Cabinet Secretaries will earn will be Sh. 924,000 monthly. This entails a basic salary of Sh. 554,000, a house allowance of Sh. 200,000, a market adjustment of Sh. 169,600 bringing the total gross wage up to Sh. 924,000 per month, exclusive of taxes.
In addition to that, the Cabinet Secretaries will enjoy benefits such as an official state motor vehicle with a maximum engine capacity of 3000cc. The state cars are to help them move around inspecting and initiating development projects.
They will also be eligible to obtain a car loan of up to Sh. 10 million and Sh. 40 million mortgages.
They will have access to medical benefits which include annual medical coverage for one spouse, and a maximum of 4 children under the age of 25 who are wholly dependent on the Cabinet Secretary.

The medical benefits broken down are Sh. 10 million inpatient, Sh. 300,000 outpatient, Sh. 150,000 maternity, Sh. 75,000 dental and Sh. 75,000 optical.
The Cabinet Secretaries’ extra perks include receiving monthly airtime benefits worth Sh. 20,000. They will be provided with a security team as advised by the Inspector General of Police.
Furthermore, Cabinet Secretaries will enjoy daily subsistence allowances for domestic and international travel, which will be reviewed by the SRC and confirmed from time to time.
The appointed Cabinet Secretaries are answerable to President Ruto and are expected to provide regular reports on their ministries to the parliament.
