Kenyan shocked after receiving Sh. 27,000 KPLC bill despite being away on travel

Co-Op post

Motivational Speaker Sam Vidambu suffered a shocking blow when he decided to check his monthly KPLC token bill.

Despite the speaker being away oftentimes on travel, he had been charged a preposterous amount, Sh. 27,000.

“KPLC KPLC KPLC. Wueeh…so I have checked my Kenya Power bill for July 2023. It’s 27,000. I am rarely in the house because my work involves travelling throughout the country,” the speaker complained.

Taking to his protests to his Facebook channel where he enjoys a large following (302k followers), Sam Vidambu listed some of the appliances he uses in his house.

He argues that, in addition to living a solitary life and always hitting the road, his appliances could not have consumed an amount of electricity equalling that amount.

The appliances include an electric gas cooker, a laundry machine, a refrigerator, a hot shower and electrical appliances such as a TV, radio and laptop.

Untold story of two little-known men who founded KPLC

“I stay alone. I only use power for my laundry machine, refrigerator, electric gas cooker, hot shower and TV, radio, laptop.
Kenya Power, Wueeeh,” Vidambu wrote.

Vidambu’s substantial electricity bill coincides with an Auditor General’s report that raised concerns about Kenya Power’s billing practices. The report indicated that KPLC inflated Kenyans’ consumption

They paid 20% more than their actual power consumption.

“Almost 20% of the bill to consumers cannot be matched to actual consumption, neither can the distribution company attribute it to a specific consumer,” it read in part.

Kenyans took to social media to reply to Sam Vidambu’s resentment of his Sh. 27,000 bill. Here are some of the comments:

Jude Obegi: Check the meter reading in the app and the one in your meter.sometimes they estimate more than you have used. Also submitted your readings monthly around 9th to 13th/every month.on *977#.if you do that.you will be able to know how many units you use each month and the estimate the price. But the cost of power have gone up this year.and he will go up more due to the high cost of fuel due to the taxbill.

Mediator Patty Kose: That could be some typing error, are you able to take a picture of thff etc meter reading and take it to Kenya power by yourself ? They will assist you

Jackline Muthoni: Lemmi help you… Substitute. Laundry Machine tafuta Mama fua. And if away Why’s the Refrigerator on?
