Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is prepared to invest millions of shillings in educating his daughter Sandra Mbuvi at Brighton University in the United Kingdom.
The young business lady departed Kenya on 20th September 2023, for a four-year study at the pristine university on the South Coast of England. Sonko was brimming with pride as he shared the news with his followers on Instagram.
“With a heart full of mixed emotions tonight, I am very happy but sad at the same time seeing off my lovely daughter Sandra Mbuvi to London, where she will be joining Brighton International University for a four-year course…” the flamboyant politician wrote.
Sandra Mbuvi, who owns a Cosmetics store, recently completed her studies at St. Austins Academy in Nairobi. This accomplishment has opened doors to a brighter future, pursuing higher education in the UK.
A spot check by Bizna Kenya revealed that a degree from Brighton University is highly reputable and does not come cheap. Tuition fees vary depending on the type of degrees program one chooses
They typically range between Sh. 2.6 million (£14,770) and Sh. 3.1 million (£17,320).
On top of tuition fees, additional expenses linked to accommodation and living in Brighton can significantly raise the overall cost, reaching approximately Sh. 5.5 million (£30,000) per year at the minimum.
Similar to any caring parent, the loving father penned an emotional farewell message to his daughter, expressing his best wishes as she embarked on a promising journey.
“Dear daughter, I want you to know how proud I am of the adventurous spirit within you. Watching you spread your wings and embark on this exciting journey to study abroad fills me with happiness for all the opportunities and experiences that await you,” he wrote
Sandra Mbuvi was accompanied by her mother, Primrose, who plans to stay with her for four months to assist her daughter in settling into life in the East Sussex community.
“Yet, at the same time, a part of me feels a profound sadness, realizing how much I’ll miss your presence, our daily conversations, and the warmth of your smile. The house will feel emptier without your laughter and that of your mum, who will also be away with you for four months as you adapt to the new environment and culture.”
It is currently unclear to the public which course Sonko’s daughter will be pursuing at the university.
