Telkom gives customers free data tokens for last week’s network outage

Telkom Kenya has announced that all its customers will receive free data bundles as a token of apology over last week’s network outage.

According to Telkom chief executive officer, Mugo Kibati, Telkom customers will get 200mbs free data. “Further to not billing you for the period starting 6.00pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 through to 6pm, Thursday, January 20, 2022, we are now extending a 200mb bundle to you, valid for 1 day,” said Kibati.

Telkom apologizes for service outage, won’t charge customers for 24hrs

Telkom customers in some parts of the country were unable to access mobile voice and data services during the course of the day on Wednesday and Thursday. Following this outage, the telecommunications firm came out to offer an apology to its customers.

“I apologise for any inconvenience this service outage has caused our customers and assure them that we are working to restore services back to all areas as soon as possible,” Kibati said.  “Telkom will not bill its Mobile customers for the period starting 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 through to 6:00 pm, Thursday, January 20, 2022,” he said, adding that during this period, customers used Telkom data services without being billed.

Telkom has emerged as one of the most preferred network providers in Kenya due to its low data packages and data efficiency. The service provider currently has a package that offers up to 180 GB for Sh. 2,000, an amount of GB that would cost Sh. 18,000 on a rival network.
