The Standard Group has announced the death of one of its journalists, Shadrack Mitty, who died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Mitty, who died in the wee hours of Wednesday, May 29, is said to have been battling a blood disease for an unspecified period of time.
His condition had deteriorated as of Tuesday, May 28, at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Standard Group, Mitty was a seasoned journalist covering Education news for the media outlet.
Among the top stories he covered are the transition of the new education curriculum to CBC, from the 8-4-4 system, and reported on several KCSE and KCPE examination intakes.
His TV career blossomed in 2012 when he joined QTV where he served until 2016 before moving to KTN where he had been serving till his demise.

Various journalists and organizations have eulogized him as a man who loved his work and did it passionately.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our colleague Shadrach Mitty. I have known Mitty as a very focused, composed, and dedicated reporter with an unrivaled passion for education stories. We will surely miss him. May the Almighty Lord give his family and friends strength during this difficult moment,” said Standard Group PLC Broadcast and Innovation Editor, Kizito Namulanda.
Standard Group Broadcast Deputy Editor Ken Mijungu condoled Mitty, remembering him as a dedicated individual.
“His dedication was unquestionable, professionalism unrivaled. A friendly team member whose contacts in the education sector made all the difference in our work. He was a good man, a perfect gentleman,” wrote Mijungu.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) eulogized Mitty as a talented reporter who always produced balanced, informative stories on education matters.
