Trump orders reopening of notorious Alcatraz prison

US President Donald Trump has ordered the reopening of the notorious Alcatraz prison –  which is also known as the Alcatraz Island. The US president said that the reopening of prison will serve as a symbol of law, order and justice and will the home of America’s most notorious criminals.

“For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than misery and suffering. When we were a more serious nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals and keep them far away from anyone the could harm. That’s the way it is supposed to be,” he said.

He added that his administration will no longer tolerate serial offenders. He then directed the US Department of Justice to facilitate the reopening of the prison.

Co-Op post

“I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI and homeland Security to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt Alcatraz to house America’s most ruthless and violent offenders. We will no longer be held hostage to criminals, thugs, and judges that are afraid to do their job and allow us to remove criminals who came into our country illegally,” he said in a statement that also came across as a veiled attack on judges who have been ordering that his government returns a man who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador.

The Alcatraz Prison is currently a tourist attraction site and has been famously cast in movies. It hosted famous notorious gangsters including Al Capone, Mickey Cohen and George “Machine Gun” Kelly.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the prison was shut down primarily because it was too expensive to maintain. Apparently, the prison – which is located on an island – was three times more expensive to run than an ordinary prison. These costs were mainly due to its island location.

“On March 21, 1963, USP Alcatraz closed after 29 years of operation. It did not close because of the disappearance of Morris and the Anglins (the decision to close the prison was made long before the three disappeared), but because the institution was too expensive to continue operating,” the Federal Bureau of Prisons states.
