TSC Hiring Interns: The Teachers Service Commission has disputed reports that it is planning to hire 12,000 interns. The commission on October 20 disputed reports that had been circulating on social media claiming that it was inviting applicants to apply for the 2020 internships.
“We wish to advise teachers and the general public to ignore a fake jobs advert circulating on social media and purporting that there are 12,000 intern jobs. TSC has not placed any advert anywhere. We will communicate through our official channels when new job vacancies arise,” the TSC Head of Corporate Affairs Beatrice Wababu said.

The reports alleged that TSC would hire 12,000 intern teachers. The TSC said that out of this number, 4,000 teachers will be posted to primary schools while 8,000 will be posted in secondary schools.
Interested candidates have been asked to make their applications online through the TSC website www.tsc.go.ke under ‘Careers’ or through www.teachesonline.go.ke. The applications are required to be received not later than Monday November 2, 2020.
Last year, the commission recruited 10,000 interns. The new interns will however earn higher salaries compared to the interns who were hired last year.
The Teachers Service Commission pays the interns posted to secondary school Sh. 15,000, which decreases to about Sh. 10,000 after statutory deductions.
They pay Sh. 1,200 for a mandatory personal accident cover while Sh. 3,000 is sent to the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb), Sh. 800 to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Sh. 600 to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) deducts Sh. 600 and Sh. 1,741 as Pay As You Earn (Paye).
