The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is seeking qualified and available secondary school teachers who are currently awaiting transfer or swaps to temporarily redeploy them to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
In a memo dated July 19, TSC Secretary and Chief Executive Dr. Nancy Macharia directed all TSC regional and county directors to conduct a thorough review of secondary school teachers awaiting transfer or swap within their areas.
The objective is to identify qualified and willing teachers for temporary redeployment to JSS until their transfer or swap requests are processed. This initiative aims to address the critical teacher shortage in JSS and ensure continuous learning in these institutions.
“It has come to our attention that a significant number of teachers in secondary schools have applied for transfers or swaps and are currently awaiting placement. While their requests are being processed, the ongoing teacher shortage in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) presents a critical challenge to the effective implementation of the Competency-Based-Curriculum (CBC),” reads the memo.

“To address this issue and optimize the utilization of available human resources, I hereby direct all Regional County Directors and Country Directors, TSC, to undertake a comprehensive review of teachers awaiting transfer or swap within their respective jurisdictions.”
In executing the directives, the TSC asks its directors to adhere to the following guidelines: identify eligible teachers, consult and engage with them, coordinate and collaborate with relevant departments to ensure a smooth redeployment process to JSS, and monitor and evaluate the implementation of the redeployment.
Reports on the implementation process are to be submitted by August 8, 2024.
