TSC to hire 5,000

The Teachers Service Commission will soon announce its latest phase of new hirings. This comes after the TSC said that it is looking to hire up to 5,000 teachers on permanent basis and 6,000 others on internships.

This was announced by the TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia during the release of the 2021 KCSE results on April 23, 2022.

“The government has allocated the TSC Sh. 1.2 billion to recruit 6,000 interns as a stop gap measure to ease the shortage which stand at 114,581 teachers,” she said.

Macharia said that the majority of the new teachers and interns will be assigned to sub-county schools that serve a large number of students.

“During the impending recruitment, we will put more emphasis on staffing sub-county secondary schools, which admit the bulk of learners,” she said.

She also said that the National Treasury has released Sh. 2.5 billion for the financial year 2022/2023 which will be used to recruit more teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

“I wish to assure the country that the Commission will immediately embark on the exercise to recruit the teachers to ensure that they report to work as soon as possible, to ease the existing teacher-shortage in schools,”
