QuickMart IPO: The United Kingdom Government, through its MOBILIST programme, has subscribed Sh1.94 billion worth of shares in QuickMart PLC’s Initial Public Offering (IPO), strengthening international investor participation in the Kenyan retailer’s planned listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
In an announcement dated October 21, 2026, the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), through MOBILIST, confirmed a subscription of US$15 million, equivalent to approximately Sh1.94 billion, in QuickMart’s IPO.
The investment represents approximately 13% of the retailer’s Sh15 billion share offer and builds on efforts to deepen Kenya’s capital markets by attracting institutional investors and expanding public participation in established businesses.
UK Government Backs QuickMart’s NSE Listing
The MOBILIST investment is intended to support QuickMart’s proposed listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, providing an opportunity for investors to acquire shares in one of Kenya’s established supermarket chains.
The subscription follows an earlier conditional cornerstone investment commitment of up to US$15 million by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group’s private sector investment arm. The IFC commitment remains subject to approval by its Board.
The UK Government’s investment also builds on MOBILIST’s partnership with the NSE, established in 2024 to expand investment opportunities in listed securities and strengthen participation by domestic and international institutional investors, including pension funds.
MOBILIST supports companies and investment products seeking access to public markets through capital investment, technical assistance, research and partnerships.

QuickMart IPO Involves Sh15 Billion Share Offer
QuickMart’s IPO comprises two billion existing ordinary shares, representing 50% of its issued share capital. The shares are being offered for sale by Sokoni Retail Kenya Limited at Sh7.50 per share.
Because the offer involves the sale of existing shares, QuickMart will not issue new shares through the transaction. Instead, the IPO will broaden ownership by allowing new investors to acquire a stake in the retailer from the existing shareholder.
The offer is scheduled to close at 5:00 p.m. East Africa Time on October 30, 2026, with trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange expected to commence on November 12, 2026, subject to the offer conditions and any formally announced changes to the timetable.

QuickMart Operates 72 Stores Across 16 Counties
QuickMart operates 72 stores across 16 counties in Kenya, positioning it as a significant player in the country’s organised retail sector.
The retailer reported revenue of Sh50.4 billion in the 2025 financial year. Its growth strategy combines expansion into additional locations, increased sales within existing stores, digital channels and improvements in operational efficiency.
The company expects organic growth to be funded primarily through internally generated cash flows.
The proposed NSE listing is intended to widen share ownership while supporting QuickMart’s longer-term growth ambitions. The transaction also creates an opportunity for investors to participate in the performance of a retailer serving consumers across multiple Kenyan counties.

QuickMart Leadership Highlights Growth and Shareholder Value
Peter Kang’iri, Group Chief Executive Officer of QuickMart, said the retailer welcomed MOBILIST as an investment partner as the company sought to broaden its ownership base.
He said QuickMart’s business proposition focuses on making fresh food and everyday essentials accessible, operating stores efficiently and reinvesting cash generated by the business to support disciplined growth.
According to Kang’iri, the proposed listing is expected to support the company’s ambition to create long-term shareholder value while expanding opportunities for suppliers, creating jobs and increasing access to affordable shopping.
The listing could also increase the visibility of Kenya’s retail sector among local and international investors, although the eventual investment outcomes will depend on the company’s financial performance, market conditions and other commercial factors.
MOBILIST Expands Investment in Kenya’s Capital Markets
QuickMart’s IPO investment follows other transactions through which MOBILIST has supported investment products seeking access to Kenya’s public markets.
Earlier in 2026, the programme invested US$9 million as a cornerstone investor in the listing of the Africa Logistics Properties Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust (ALP REIT).
MOBILIST also anchored the Spearhead Africa Infrastructure Fund, described in the announcement as Kenya’s first listed infrastructure fund, with an investment of approximately Sh1.2 billion. The fund raised Sh3.4 billion to provide long-term, local-currency financing for infrastructure.
These investments reflect MOBILIST’s approach of supporting public-market products that can channel institutional capital into businesses and sectors requiring long-term financing.
For Kenya, attracting such investors could help diversify the sources of capital available to companies and create additional investment opportunities beyond traditional asset classes.

What QuickMart’s IPO Means for Investors
The QuickMart IPO allows prospective investors to evaluate an established retail business through the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
However, investors should assess the company’s financial statements, profitability, debt obligations, cash flows, competitive position and growth prospects before making an investment decision.
The offer price of Sh7.50 per share should be considered alongside the company’s financial performance, business risks and valuation. Investors should also understand that shares can rise or fall in value and that past revenue growth does not guarantee future returns.
The approved Information Memorandum contains the formal offer terms, risk disclosures and application procedures.
