When Wangui Wambeca returned home from work in the evening of Wednesday, February 23, she found that her son had been injured on the back of his head and the lips. The alleged perpetrator was her house-help, Maureen Nyaboke . Throughout that day, her two year old son had been with the house-help.

“When my husband and I returned home on Wednesday evening, we saw our son’s head and lip injuries. We consequently asked the nanny what had happened to the boy, and she said he had fallen down,” Wangui Wambeca told local media house, The Standard. “Her story was not adding up. My husband, as a result, asked her to leave our home. He gave her bus fare.”

On Thursday, February 24, Wambeca’s son Andy Muiruri Kibe woke up with a swollen eye. They took him to the hospital where he was treated and discharged on an outpatient arrangement. His condition, though, deteriorated and on Friday, February 25, they rushed him back to the hospital.

“At around 11pm on Friday, he started vomiting blood. We rushed him to hospital. Just like the other visits, he was treated and discharged. The following day, at around 4pm, Andy became unconscious. We rushed him to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Wambeca told the daily. On Saturday, February 26, little Andy passed away.

A postmortem conducted on Tuesday, March 1, indicated that Andy’s cause of death was internal bleeding in the head. “We have a postmortem report with us and it has indicated that the child had sustained severe internal bleeding and succumbed to the same on a Saturday,” she said. Wambeca’s house-help who is the prime suspect in the death of the little boy was was arrested, and held at Kiamumbi Police Station pending investigations.

The unfortunate death of Andy became the latest incident involving evil house-helps. Over the recent months, shocking videos of house-helps abusing children at home have been leaked and shared online.
