Warunge Murder Case: University student Lawrence Warunge is unfit to stand trial over the murder of his family. This has been ruled by a court in Kiambu.

This ruling came after a psychiatric report was presented at Kiambu Law Courts on Tuesday. This comes after Warunge – the main suspect in the murder of Nicholas Warunge, his wife, son, nephew and a mason – failed to appear in court as expected Monday, with investigators saying he had been taken for mental assessment.

Warunge is now set to be evaluated and treated in the next 30 days after which more tests will be conducted to assess whether he is fit to stand trial.

How and why Lawrence Warunge planned to murder his family for months

Chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi granted the application where Warunge will be held in police custody in Nairobi until March 1, 2021, when the matter will be mentioned.

The second suspect, Sarah Muthoni, Warunge’s girlfriend, has been set free and will now testify as a prosecution witness in the case.

The 22-year-old Warunge was accused of killing his five family members in cold-blood, claiming they had all conspired to speak ill against him.

In a damning police report, Warunge told detectives how he researched online on the best way to commit the crime.

He confessed how he inadvertently picked lessons from a psychopathic killer in British show “Killing Eve”.
