Who Killed Omwenga: Businessman Chris Obure has thrown his bodyguard Robert Bodo under the bus. The controversial businessman has further applied that he be allowed to act as a State witness.
This comes after detectives said that Obure and Bodo would be charged with the murder of Kevin Omwenga. “The CCTV footage shows Bodo breaking into my office and retrieving my firearm from its safe. Moreover, the CCTV captures him breaking in again and returning the gun that was allegedly used in the murder of Omwenga,” the application by Bodo reads.
Consequently, High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi has deferred the plea taking of the duo to Wednesday this week. The application further states that it is no doubt that the deceased was shot by Robert Bodo and that the firearm that caused the death of the deceased is registered under the name of Obure but he had nothing to do with the killing of Omwenga.
Through lawyer Danstan Omar, the businessman said that since he’s a suspect, if he takes a plea without making his voice heard, then his fundamental rights would be prejudiced.
“It is therefore unreasonable to charge the applicant for the offense of murder while the facts demonstrate that the applicant would better serve the interest of justice as witness to the facts leading to the untimely and sudden death of the deceased Kevin Omwenga,” the application reads. The trial is expected to layout the puzzling turn of events and the answer the question on who killed Omwenga and why.
One set of details has previously suggested that the slain 28 year old was set to collect a whopping Sh. 100 million in Dubai following a successful deal.
Omwenga was to travel to the Arab country together with his neighbour and friend who has been identified as Jamal. Jamal is the Asian / Arab looking fellow with a pony tail who was spotted in the CCTV footage on the night that Omwenga was murdered. Omwenga was shot dead at his apartment in Galana Suites, Kilimani estate on Friday, August 21.
