Woman detained over alleged posts tracking President Ruto’s flights

A woman has been remanded for three days as detectives investigate allegations that she operated an X account accused of publishing information tracking the flight movements of President William Ruto.

The suspect, Halima Ngache, popularly known online as “Princess Halima,” was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Serious Crimes Unit during what investigators described as an intelligence-led operation in the Kazandani area.

Authorities allege that she was linked to a verified X account that shared information relating to the travel movements of protected State officials.

Ngache was presented before the Milimani Law Courts, where detectives successfully sought orders allowing them to hold her for three days to complete investigations. The case is scheduled for mention on July 6, 2026.

According to DCI Director Amin Mohamed, the suspect is being investigated for alleged cyber harassment under Section 27(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

Court documents filed by Corporal Edwin Metto of the DCI’s Serious Crimes Unit state that investigators received intelligence on June 29 regarding the verified X account, @sholard_mancity. The account allegedly published flight routes and travel details said to correspond with the President’s movements.

Investigators told the court they were yet to establish the motive behind the posts but argued that the information had raised security concerns for the Head of State and members of the public.

The affidavit filed in court cites several posts allegedly made through the account, including claims that President Ruto travelled from Belgium to Norway aboard a chartered private aircraft on June 8, proceeded from Norway to Finland on June 10, and later departed Kenya on June 25 en route to Madagascar, where he was allegedly expected to board another private jet.

Detectives argued that the publication of such information created apprehension regarding the President’s security, adding that investigations were necessary to determine the origin and intent of the posts.

The DCI further informed the court that Ngache was arrested on June 30 in Bamburi, Mombasa County, before being transferred to Nairobi and booked at Muthaiga Police Station.

During the operation, detectives recovered two mobile phones, a tablet, a laptop, flash drives and other electronic storage devices. The equipment will undergo forensic examination as investigators seek evidence relevant to the inquiry.

While appearing before the court, Ngache denied responsibility for the continued activity on the X account, telling the court that despite the seizure of her electronic devices, the account remained operational, suggesting it could be controlled by another individual.

Senior Principal Magistrate Theresa Nyangena granted the prosecution’s application to detain the suspect at Muthaiga Police Station for three days to facilitate the ongoing investigations.
