The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has finally responded to the official complaint that was made by Kitengela International Schools.
The complaint by Kitengela International was over the poor marks that were recorded by its students in the 2023 KCPE. The first student at the school had scored 353 marks out of the possible 500.
In its response to Kitengela International School, KNEC said that the marks that had been allocated to the candidates were correct.
“Verification of the 2023 KCPE examination results for the candidates in your school was carried out by validating afresh the candidates’ examination results in all the papers. This has confirmed that the 2023 KCPE examination results for the candidates are correct as posted to the KNEC portal,” said KNEC.
Parents puzzled as kids who’ve never scored above 300 marks get 400s in KCPE
“Marking of the candidates’ Objective papers, Composition and Insha answer scripts for your school was undertaken together with the rest of the candidates who sat the 2023 KCPE examination as per KNEC Rules and Regulations for marking examinations.”
In their protest, the school and the parents had lamented that the scores their children got did not reflect their true abilities.
“We truly believe that those do not reflect the abilities of our kids, we are 100 per cent sure those are not our results. It can’t be that a school that has been number 1 in the country for the last three years all of a sudden in two years’ time we don’t have top performers,” one of the parents who was identified as Samuel Nderitu had said during a protest the parents at the school staged at the KNEC offices.
Another parent who identified as Claudia Okumu had said; “To me as a parent representing the parents, I believe that this is a sincere injustice to the children of Kitengela International as indicated here and also to the children of other schools in this nation.”
