A Kenyan mother has come out to ask if it will be wise for her to travel to Canada with her children on a visit visa then seek asylum upon arrival.
“I want to go to Canada via visit visa with my children who are aged 9 and 2 years then seek asylum… Please give me the do’s and don’ts. What challenges am I likely to encounter?” she posed.
Her quest comes barely a week after a Kenyan woman died after spending hours in the cold while seeking asylum in Canada. The Kenyan woman who was identified as Delphina Ngigi was a widow and a mother of four.
In response to her question, a number of Kenyans came out to offer their take;
“I hope you aren’t planning to risk your kids life in that harsh weather condition,” said Lucy Nimo.
“I would advise you go alone first and then when get stable come for children,” said Felista Kibunja.
“Kindly leave kids behind they’ll follow you later,” said Charity Wanjira.
In a related query, yet another Kenyan mom asked how a mother with kids could navigate the Canadian asylum process after landing on a visit visa.
“If you don’t have sufficient money, don’t dare take your kids for asylum. You will put them to suffering bcoz of your ignorance,” said Ayub Chege.
“Our client left with 3 of her kids in May 2023 with a visitor visa n they are doing okay even the kids are at school. Don’t fear, try your luck,” an agent commented.
Should I pay Nairobi agent Sh. 850,000 to get me bank statement, Canada visit visa?
“Why relocate from motherland to go seek asylum in foreign land?” remarked Joy Blessing.
I saw a Nigerian lady with two kids traveling on a visit visa. The mother insisted to the border officer that they were on a 3-month holiday. But when the border officer asked the kids, they said that they wanted to live there. They were set to be deported and opted to seek asylum instead,” said Charles Oyaro.
