Rachel Ruto, Dorcas Gachagua offices to get Sh. 1.2 billion in new budget

The office of the First Lady Rachel Ruto is set for a spending boost. The office will receive a 17.3 per cent increase in allocation to Sh. 696.6 million in the financial year starting July 2024.

This has been revealed by a report that has been tabled in Parliament by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury Professor Njuguna Ndung’u.

The new allocation for the First Lady’s office will be an increase from the Sh. 593.9 million that the office received in the current financial year.

According to the report tabled in parliament, a huge part of the allocation will be used to pay salaries for staff attached to the office.

At the same time, the amount of money allocated to the office of the spouse of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Dorcas Gachagua will decrease from Sh. 717.6 million to Sh. 557.5 million. This is after Mrs. Gachagua’s budget was more than doubled through a mini budget that was tabled in the National Assembly in October 2023.
