Household items belonging to nominated Senator Karen Nyamu are set to be auctioned over rent arrears amounting to Sh. 1.25 million.
The auctioning has been cleared by a Nairobi court that has also ordered police officers at Runda to accompany the auctioneer during the recovery of the household items at the Senator’s home in Runda’s Graceville Villas.
The items shall be recovered for auctioning by Fantasy Auctioneers on behalf of the landlord who has been identified as James Gichuru Kirubi. The order for the items to be auctioned was issued by Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate A.H. Nyoike.
“The officer commanding Runda Police Station or any other officer under his command to give assistance for purpose of maintaining law and order,” the court order states. The order was issued on November 13, 2024.
However, Karen Nyamu has alleged that the move by Fantasy Auctioneers to seek to recover her belongings is malicious and that she will be heading to court over the matter.

“Whatever the auctioneer is doing is wrong. I will definitely be heading to court,” she was quoted as saying.
Reports say that Nyamu’s landlord first sought orders to auction items belonging to the Senator in November 2023.
At that time the amount owed to the landlord stood Sh. 385,000. It was not immediately clear how the amount went on to balloon to the over Sh. 1.2 million that is currently being sought by the landlord.
It was also not clear if the Senator has been paying rent and, or how she fell into arrears.
