The US Embassy in Kenya has invited Kenyans to apply for the 2026-2027 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) program.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 23, the Embassy said successful applicants will be deployed to teach Kiswahili in various institutions in the US for one year.
“Apply for the 2026-2027 Fulbright FLTA Program and teach Kiswahili in the U.S. while gaining valuable professional and cultural exchange experience,” the statement read in part.
The Fulbright FLTA Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and is designed to give US residents knowledge of foreign cultures and languages.
To qualify for the FLTAs program, applicants must reside in the country of nomination at the time of application.

In addition, they must possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree with a good academic record.
Candidates should also be early-career teachers of English, those training to become English teachers, or educators in a related field. While prior teaching experience is preferred, it is not mandatory.
Other requirements include a genuine interest in teaching their native language and culture to students in the United States, fluent in English, being flexible and having a willingness to learn.
Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work creatively, being adaptable to living in rural or urban areas, demonstrate maturity, integrity, and professionalism.
Candidates with US citizenship will not be considered as dual citizens are not eligible for participation in the program.
