A senior officer at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is on the spot over fraudulent activities that cost the facility close to Sh4 million.

The long-serving employee and Vice Chair of the KNH Staff Organization has been charged with the theft of 56 Lenovo M10 tablets valued at Sh3.65 million. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts and faces charges of stealing by servant, a serious offense under Section 281 of Kenya’s Penal Code.

According to court documents, the alleged theft occurred between October 18, 2023, and February 27, 2025, within KNH premises in Nairobi.

Co-Op post

An internal audit investigation conducted early this year revealed that the tablets were procured by the Ministry of Health and delivered to KNH between October 2023 and February 2025.

They were meant to be distributed across various departments to support electronic medical records and telemedicine services.

The audit revealed discrepancies in inventory records, prompting a formal investigation by hospital management and law enforcement agencies.

Investigators believe that the official used his position to divert the drugs without detection. The official denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh300,000, with the case scheduled for a mention for further directions on the hearing.
