Lolani Kalu Profile: Kenyans have come out to help struggling former NTV presenter Lolani Kalu. This comes two days after his plight was highlighted.
Lolani, who lost his job at NTV three years ago, has been struggling to make ends meet in Kilifi. In his plead for help, Kalu had said that he would do with a laptop and a video camera.
On Wednesday, Kalu indicated that he had received slightly over Sh. 200,000 from well wishers.

“Many Kenyans have been sending between Sh. 50 and Sh. 100 and I am simply overwhelmed. I lack words to express my gratitude to the well-wishers from far and wide, who have sent whatever they had to my cell phone line via mobile money,” he said.
Among those who pledged to come to the aid of the journalist is popular Classic FM radio presenter Maina Kageni. There was also a report that the media star had been hired as a brand ambassador for Abson Motors which is based in Mombasa.
Lolani said that after losing his job three years ago, he had decided to open a production company. The company though did not perform as expected. It has been struggling with some clients failing to pay up for work done, said Lolani.
Lolani further said that he had lost all his savings amounting to Sh. 1.5 million to a rogue businessman whom he had contracted to build him a retirement home in Kangundo.
Lolani’s plight came to light after a social media user identified as Ahmed Mohamed asked for his whereabouts. Mohamed posted: “A few days ago I asked about the whereabouts of journalist Lolani Kalu. Today Chief Inspector Siyat of Kaloleni Station has found him. I have spoken to Lolani. He is going through hard times & seeking for your help. His number is 0720554930. Kindly send him what you can. Thanks.”
