The late billionaire Chris Kirubi’s daughter MaryAnn Musangi is one of the most powerful women in Kenya. After the death of her father, MaryAnn took over the management of the Sh. 40 billion estate that was left behind by her late father Kirubi.
But MaryAnn Musangi had already been trailblazing in business. She had been working as the Managing Director of Haco Industries. She also operated two private businesses; a restaurant called Secret Garden on Riverside Drive in Nairobi and another at Two Rivers called Olpul.
Currently, she also sits on at least seven boards of publicly traded and private Kenyan companies, including Sidian Bank (formerly K-Rep Bank now sold to a Nigeria lender), Haco Tiger Brands, UAP Investments Limited, International House Limited, Woof Advertising & Marketing, Croyden Limited and Sheraton Rongai. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in international business administration and a Master of Science in management from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom.
Starting her corporate career at age 23, MaryAnn has worked with top companies such as Coca-Cola Company, Kenya Commercial Bank, GlaxoSmithKline and Ogilvy & Mather.
Now, she will be branching out in her managerial roles to also tend to her late father’s ventures in the media, technology, advertising, stocks and agriculture.
“My father adored me…in my father’s life, I was the boss and I would have all of him to myself,” Ms Musangi said during her father’s burial on June 19, 2021.
In June 2021 after the death of Kirubi, MaryAnn pledged that she will establish a foundation in honour of the departed businessman to focus on education, innovation and technology, health (specialising in diabetes and cancer) and agriculture.
