One of the most renowned flight reviewers in the world recently flew in the KQ Dreamliner to Dubai. The reviewer, Sam Chui, boarded the Kenya Airways B787 Dreamliner in Nairobi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
In one of the most honest reviews about the national carrier, Chui gave the good, the bad, and, the ugly of using Kenya’s most prestigious plane, the Dreamliner.
The ugly was embarrassingly experienced before boarding the plane. It was perpetrated by ground staff who according to reactions from Chui’s review, havhascome notorious for their uncouth behavior towards travelers.
In the review, staff on the ground could be seen shouting instructions in what was not a well a mannered and courteous method.
This observation was quickly echoed by commentators who noted that the ground staff is the national carrier’s biggest undoing.
“Sadly that comment about the poor ground staff at JKIA, particularly at the gate area, is very true. I had the same experience as well,” a commentator who was identified as Mark. O said.
“This sadly is because they are not KQ staff, but contract staff who have no idea about customer service. It does not matter which airline you fly, they treat you as though you are disturbing their mid-afternoon siesta.”
Another commentator said: “I must admit that the ground staff at Jomo Kenyatta International airport are horrible and pathetic in Customer Service. Starting from immigration, customs, and the ground staff. They run the airport like a cowshed.”
In his review, Chui noted that the good KQ services were on-board. The crew was friendly and helpful. However, there was ‘bad’ in the type of food that KQ served.
I found out my hubby is a garbage collector not a JKIA employee after 10 yrs
According to Chui, the food could be better for both business and economy classes. The economy class was particularly not very appetizing. It was pilau that didn’t look to have been very well cooked, wrapped in a box.
In comparison to food offered by rival airlines, Chui noted that KQ still has a long way to go. This was also the same observation on the lack of on-board wifi and outdated movie selections.
