Caroline Kangogo Family: The family of the late police woman Caroline Kangogo has come out to dispel what they term as conspiracy theories regarding Kangogo’s death.
Speaking to the media, Kangogo’s father, retired police officer Corporal Barnabas Kibor said that his daughter had locked herself in the bathroom on Thursday night, and shot herself. He explained that she had pulled the trigger from under her chin, with the bullet exiting from the left side of her skull.
Mzee Kibor further explained that her daughter had traveled to the home at around 10pm on Thursday night using a boda boda. This was in contradiction to what Rift Valley Commissioner George Natembeya had said on Friday morning when Kangogo’s body was discovered. Natembeya had explained that Kangogo had arrived at the home at around 5am on Friday morning. At around 7am, she had entered the bathroom and shot herself. However, the gunshot sound was not heard by anyone. The police had also explained that Kangogo’s body was discovered by her mother who had gone to the bathroom.
On Sunday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations dispatched detectives to Elgeyo Marakwet to probe Kangogo’s mysterious death following claims on social media and mainstream media that disputed the suicide theory that had been advanced by the police.
Doubts were raise on the sitting position Kangogo was in, how one of her hands was still in her pocket, how the other hand held the pistol, and why there was no blood splash on the wall. In addition, Kenyans questioned how a woman on the run could have been in the same clothes for 11 days while crisscrossing one county to the other as had been alleged by the police.
