Flamboyant city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has revealed a unique policy at his companies where his employees are required to work for only six hours.
Kipkorir revealed all his employees work from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. against the standard 8-5 work time policy in most companies in Kenya.
The lawyer revealed that his decision to slash working hours followed a serious battle with COVID-19, which changed his perception about life and money.
He explained that he was among the Kenyans affected by the virus and was hospitalized for several days in a solitary room at the Agha Khan University Hospital.
While on his bed, he started reflecting on the importance of good health over money and possessions, as at that time, Covid-19 had no cure, so even those with money could not treat it by buying medicine.
Lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir wealth, mansions and luxury cars
“For the entire November 2020, I was admitted to solitary existence at Aga Khan University Hospital because of COVID-19. I knew I may not survive, but I refused my thoughts think about dying! It was the worst experience,” Kipkorir recalled.
After being discharged, he decided that he and his employees would work fewer hours and go home to spend time with their families and take care of their health.
“I made up my mind that henceforth, my staff and I will work from 8 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday, forever. We are the only business in Kenya, if not the whole world, that stops work at 2 pm. My solitary stay in AKUH allowed me to reflect on life, vanity of riches, love of family, loyalty of a few BFFs & duplicity of many others!” he added.
He urged people to have time to enjoy themselves instead of spending most of their time chasing after money and wealth.
“When you see me breaking bread or taking wine every afternoon, be assured, I have done my work for the day. It was also then that I decided I would never hunger for material possessions, money, or love. Our lives are written in the stars. What is ours will always be.”
