Gloria Kuria: Woman pioneering new era of digital logistics via innovative software

British politician Winston Churchill graced the world with one of the best quotes for vision and foresight to achieve success. He said ‘The Pessimist sees the difficult in every opportunity while the optimist sees the opportunity in every diffficulty’.

These words fittingly describe Gloria Kuria, a visionary entrepreneur and devoted mother who has turned her passion for problem-solving into a thriving career in tech and logistics.

She is the founder of Jido, an innovative logistics company that relies on tech-driven solutions for daily operations. Kuria is also an alumna from a globally recognised institution in the UK, having graduated with a Master’s in Financial Economics.

Gloria Kuria has applied her academic knowledge and skills in various enterprises including her family’s business, which have served as the cornerstone for her entrepreneurial forte.

She soon founded Livali Limited, a company offering fleet owners essential automotive solutions like tracking devices and speed governors to enhance efficiency and safety.

To become a potent entrepreneur, Kuria understood that she had to make an impact through solving real-world problems and empowering the larger community. This set the foundation for her digital logistics company, Jido.

“My journey led me to establish Jido, born out of a recognition of the urgent need for innovation in the delivery management industry. I am a frequent online shopper and like anyone else I want goods delivered fast and efficiently.,” Mrs Kuria told Bizna Kenya.

“However, I was frustrated by the persistent challenges in the delivery process like miscommunication with drivers, disputes over delivery fees and time mismanagement and I recognized a pressing need for change,” she added.

After a series of consultations with friends and family, she realized that these issues were not just isolated incidents but widespread obstacles hampering efficiency. She teamed up with a talented group of developers to come up with an innovative solution for this problem.

Jido is a delivery management software designed to unite players of the delivery ecosystem, such as businesses with fleets and high-frequency deliveries. They include courier companies, food delivery services and e-commerce businesses.

Kuria’s business intends to streamline processes and transform the way deliveries are managed. The platform utilizes technology like route optimization, goods consolidation and real-time tracking to streamline operations.

“With Jido, I’m not just addressing the pain points of the delivery industry; I’m pioneering a new era of logistics efficiency,” she said.

Gloria Kuria further revealed that she started the business with her savings from an early career. Some of the challenges she faces in entrepreneurship include licensing and building customer trust.

However, her genuine desire to make a difference coupled with the support she gets from her community has kept her motivated to find a work-around for her present challenges.

“My Christian faith played a significant role throughout this process; my prayers and the unwavering support from my community bolstered my spirit during tough times. Today, Jido is a testament to my commitment to continuous improvement, aiming to revolutionize delivery management for businesses of all sizes and exceed customer expectations,” Gloria Kuria further divulged.

Jido enables businesses to manage multiple orders effortlessly, coordinate drivers efficiently and ensure timely deliveries, all while eliminating the need for manual communication.

The technology fronted by Kuria’s company includes:

  • Multi-dispatch of orders with ETA and delivery cost for each stop
  • Route Optimization for better journey planning
  • Driver Management
  • Real-Time Tracking
  • Automated SMS notifications to customers
  • Downloadable reports for easy payment reconciliation

She believes that Jido would be an ideal choice for customers in the logistics industry. Her business efficiently offers a revolutionary approach to delivery management which ensures costs are reduced as much as possible.

The platform is tailored to meet the needs of user feedback for clients, especially those in courier and e-commerce enterprises.

“By choosing Jido, customers are not just investing in software; they are partnering with a team that is passionate about empowering businesses to thrive and excel in an increasingly competitive landscape,” she noted.

Her resourceful strides thus far in business have not been without a share of lessons. Kuria has learnt that solving problems is at the heart of every successful business agenda. This can only be achieved by regularly engaging with customers to validate the solutions offered.

“It’s essential to put your ideas on paper and seek feedback directly from users. Constant iteration based on this feedback not only improves the product but also helps refine your focus.”

In her case, she specifically targeted motorbike courier companies which led to her discovering her niche and developing a more tailored solution that meets their unique needs.

Over the next five years, Gloria Kuria plans to position Jido as a forward-thinking, sustainability-driven delivery management solution by targeting electric bike companies and other eco-friendly courier businesses.

This strategy taps into the growing demand for green logistics solutions and differentiates Jido from traditional software.

“We will expand Jido’s capabilities by integrating AI-driven features such as predictive analytics for energy use, smart charging, and eco-friendly route suggestions, ensuring optimal performance for electric fleets. By forming partnerships with electric bike manufacturers, running eco-centric marketing campaigns and leveraging green certifications, Jido will solidify its position as a leader in sustainable logistics.”

By balancing my entrepreneurial ventures with family life, Kuria seeks to be among the top women in business who demonstrate that dedication and innovation can lead to success in all facets of life.
